This was the first PSU interview that i had attended i my life, it was in NPCIL guest house in Anushakthi Nagar Mumbai. It was a wonderful experience, the interview that i had previously attended was for a campus placement in my college for a company called Keane Int (i had cleared that interview) and then for a lecturer post in VIMAL JYOTHI ENGG COLLEGE. KANNUR, where i had worked for 2 years.
The main difference i found between these interviews where that PSU interviews are testing the doubts that we always have in. Our mind but haavent bother to clear, but the other interviews just test what we know already.
The interview process begins with the document verification which takes lots of time, then we are guidedd to another building where the panel is ready for us, again after some waiting the fun begins.
I expected about 4-5 people, but the panel had 7 members, initially they asked the expansion of my college name and then asked me to write 5 subjects of my interest. I gave machines, circuits, controls and power systems.
The person told me ok sit forward lets start with network first.
Q.1 what is the input voltage and current waveforms for an RL circuit.
The answer is quite simple we have to tell it using some transient analysis, but then they modified the circuit in such a way that i had a capacitor and inductor in parallel after switching action, and they told me to draw the current waveform for inductor, i was busy thinking about. First order circuits and gave a blunder answer......
The important thing while answering such questions. Is that we should think whether a concept. Can be applied for such a circuit, i was busy thinkng first order and that was my problem.....how can you use first order analysis for a circuit that has two energy storing elements,,,, it is a second order system and assuming they are ideal it is an undamped circuit and so the current would just have osciallations.
Q.2 what is thevenin theorem and a problem was given...
Now the explanation is easy but the problem is a tricky one which tests us.. Now in such problems if we are not able to make out the answer in one go, they would actually ask us if you got an answer for e it. Was 0... Now that is a misleading one never believe it, just understand that you have made a mistake and think strongly again.
Q.3 why do have different current names such as breaking current, making current rated current for circuit breakers when for numerical calculations breaking and rated currents have same values.....
This question was where i was caught.... I have no. Idea.....
Q.4 explain the torque slip. Chara of induction motor without help of equations....
This was easy.....
Q.5 what is the variation in shape of torque slip chara if. Stator resistance is increased.....
I made a stupid answer here which i still wonder how i gave,.,,, the answer is easy...variation in stator resistance is nothing but variation in appiled voltage so increase in stator resistance is nothing but decrease in applied voltage.......
The important thing i guess is to keep a cool mind... And some acquire confidence, because all answers appear in front of us when we think with a cool head.. But its difficult to do it there.. But i guess practise would help....

ReplyDeleteSir can you suggest me some ways to prepare for npcil i am from instrumentation
ReplyDeleteDear Mr. Das,
DeletePlease study gate syllabus, the exam is not very tough for NPCIl, take some good material like ACE or made easy.
Thank you
Sir can you suggest me some ways to prepare for npcil i am from instrumentation

DeleteSIR PLEASE SHARE EXPERIENCE WITH BARC
ReplyDeleteDear Sharisma,
DeleteSince you have asked I have created a seperate post for BARC, in the interviews section. Hope you find it helpful
You were asked 5 subjects but you have mentioned only 4 here.
ReplyDeleteCan you tell which was your 5th subject.

did they ask questions about project and summer training also
ReplyDeleteSory sir i asked u wrongly. Actualy i got shortlisted for npcil interview . I am from instrumentation background can you say me how to prepare for interview for such a short duration of time.
